  • Dr Varma carries 18 years of rich experience in Liver Transplant surgery and complex Hepato-Biliary-Pancreatic surgeries. She has been involved in about 800 liver transplants. She was part of the pioneer, successful liver transplant program at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi
  • Dr Varma finished her medical school from MKCG, Medical College and Hospital, Odisha, with distinction and was recipient of merit scholarship throughout the course. She was selected for her Masters training in Surgery at Command Hospital Air Force, Bangalore. On completion of MS in 1999, she joined the department of Surgical Gastroenterology and Liver Transplant at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi. Super-speciality training was under the able guidance of renowned stalwarts in GI Surgery and Liver Transplantation - Dr Samiran Nundy, Dr Arvinder Soin, and Dr Subash Gupta. She was active participant in the establishment of the liver transplant program at this institute which over the years went on to become the most successful pioneer program in the country which laid the ground for the growth of liver transplant in our country
  • Dr Varma worked as Assistant Professor in the department of Surgical Gastroenterology, Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences, Hyderabad (2005-2010). She acquired advanced skills in transplant surgery at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, University of Birmingham, UK where she trained in Deceased Donor Liver Transplant, Split liver transplant, adult and pediatric, and small bowel transplantation. University Hospital Birmingham is one of the high volume centre and she had the opportunity of working with Mr. Darius Mirza and Professor John Buckles (2009-2010). Dr Varma rejoined the liver transplant program at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi, as a Senior Fellow, when it was one of the high volume centres performing Living Donor Liver Transplant and was trained in the technical innovations and advances in the liver transplant surgery
  • After completion of Transplant fellowship, Dr Varma joined back as Consultant, Gastrointestinal and Liver Transplant surgeon at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi (2010-2013) and help re-establish the Transplant program along with other colleagues. Dr Varma has been part of the team which performed the India’s first living related intestinal transplant. She was performing complex gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary-pancreatic surgeries all throughout. In 2013, Dr Varma and her colleagues moved to Mumbai, and helped established yet another successful liver transplant program in Western part of the country which was predominantly performing Living donor liver transplants. However, during her stay (2013-2018), deceased donor liver transplant steadily picked up and constituted 15% of all the transplants performed. She has been involved in living donor liver transplants in adults and pediatric patients for acute liver failure and for end stage chronic liver disease. She has performed the first reported staged liver resection (ALPPS) for extensive liver tumour. Dr Varma was invited as an Observer to the Oxford Transplant Centre, UK, a high volume centre for pancreas and kidney transplant, under the guidance of Professor Peter Friend, the Program Director where she gained experience in pancreas transplant, combined pancreas and kidney transplant, and small bowel transplant
  • Dr Varma joined Zydus Hospital, Ahmedabad in March 2018 to establish the first liver transplant program in the private sector with full time transplant team. She along with colleagues are in the process of establishing a robust Liver and Pancreas Transplant in this part of the country. The department will also be dealing with complex hepatobiliary pancreatic surgeries
  • Dr Varma has been closely associated with academics and teaching program of DNB Surgical Trainees and has more than 120 publications (original papers, chapters, abstracts) and many presentations to her credit in national and international journals and forums. She was an Executive member (Co-chairperson of the Liver Subcommittee, Core committee member for super-urgent listing of acute liver failure patients) of the Zonal Transplant Coordination Centre, Mumbai. She is a life member of Associations of the Surgeons, Surgical Gastroenterologists of India, International and National HPB Associations, International and Liver Transplant Society of India. She is an invited reviewer for BMJ Case reports, World Journal of Gastroenterology, and Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology

He and his colleagues were instrumental in setting up the new Liver Transplant and HPB Surgery unit which became the largest Living Donor Transplant Program in Western India and successfully performed more than 200 living and deceased donor liver transplants in adult and children in Mumbai apart from complex HPB Surgery cases
  • Dr Kapoor joined KMCH Kovai, in June 2017 where he started Living donor surgeries and helped in expanding the Cadaveric Liver Transplant & HPB Surgery program and starting Pancreas Transplant

Clinical Experiences
  • After successfully completing post graduation in MS General surgery in 2010, I worked as Consultant General Surgeon at Deesa town Gujarat, India. Where I could excel in simple and few complex general surgery procedure including basic urological and gynecological procedure. I perused three-year residency in prestige institute of South India in field of surgical gastroenterology. Later on I worked as an Assistant professor in for a period of one year. During these four year I had an opportunity to assist as well as perform both complex and basic surgical procedures. Amrita institute of medical sciences is prestige institute in transplant sciences in India, Our Center perform 80 to 90 liver transplant annually which includes both Deceased and living donor liver transplant, as part of team I had opportunity to assist and performed few independently procedure in liver transplant like retrieval of organ, explant and harvest of organ. I was appreciated with award for development of center of excellence in organ transplantation
  • I have been performing complex GI emergency as well as GI and HPB malignancy cases on regular basis like, Resection anastomosis, Splenectomy, Gastrectomy, Whipple Surgery, Hepatic Resection and colorectal surgeries
  • I have been performing basic as well as advanced laparoscopic procedures like Cholecystectomy, Appendectomy, Ventral hernia and Groin hernia repair, colorectal surgeries like hemi-colectomy and low anterior resection on regular basis
  • I have also experience of vascular surgery like fistula creation for CKD patient, arterial embolectomy, and arterial bypass surgery in peripheral venous occlusive disorder
  • Currently I am working as consultant GI and HPB surgeon at Ahmedabad since March 2016. I have been performing GI and HPB surgery including cancer surgery, advance GI and bariatric surgery. I also render my services under MA Yojana for economically privileged class. I am conducting OPD visit once in a week peripheral centre like Deesa, Palanpur and Mehsana, where apart from consultation I perform basic GI surgery and diagnostic as well as therapeutic endoscopy
